My husband and I became increasingly disappointed with the public school system. We decided to home school our son. Prior to this decision, our son’s self esteem, outlook on life, and social skills were in jeopardy. It was not just affecting the classroom but it had oozed into our home. Where did our positive, life of the party, compassionate and imaginative boy go? He got stuck under the thumb of a system that only knows how to educate drugged kids. So we removed him and massaged back into him the qualities he had repressed.

As well as we thought home schooling was going, we wanted to find something more for him. And so the search began. Wow, what a journey that was!

We discovered Columbia Academy’s website and couldn’t believe what we were reading. It was as if we were reading a script that we wrote. They were including everything we were looking for; small group classrooms, 100% understanding of the material, self accountability, manners, contribution to community, and using all senses of receiving information. They understand that all children learn and receive information differently and at their own pace.

When our son enrolled at Columbia his strength was in math and his weakness was in reading. In the three months we have been here the teachers at Columbia have encouraged and supported his level of math and encouraged and pushed to increase his reading skills. He has increased his reading two grade levels from when we started! He had to do the work but he had a friend helping him all the way. He is so proud of himself.
